Fixes anything out of range in place and returns it: counts become positive integers, ranges are
ordered, enums fall back to their defaults, curves keep 1…8 finite keys and colours valid hex.
Called by ParticleSystem on every set and reset, so options straight from a GUI or a
URL are safe.
